Apr. 13th, 2004 07:11 pmwe have free internet access in this place. i am pleased.
budapest. all day it has rained (10 points if you catch the poetry reference). well, not quite all day. it was just severely overcast this morning. all afternoon it has rained. fortunately, it was a day of being inside. we went to st stephen's basilica, which is a ginormous church, very pretty. i like how all the hungarian churches we've seen (2 yesterday and 1 today) are completely different. this one was just immense, very cool inside, only a little stained glass, very high up, lots of colored marble and gold and statues. i love churches.
after this we went to the national gallery, in the buda castle. looking at art of all kinds pretty well consumed our whole day, excpet for the bit where we wandered out into the rain in search of food. wandering back involved risking life and limb across busy streets to hunt down a statue rena wanted to see. but we succeeded so all was well. la!
i hope tomorrow is sunny again. i want springtime. it started a little in prague (where the weather varied from tempting us into taking off our coats to hailing, all in one day) but yesterday in budapest was sunny and beautiful and i want more.
