I'm finding it amusing that the only friends answering this question are the ones that have already done the uprooting for a loved-one thing :)

I suppose you only know the answer if you're in a position to have to do it.

i answered because the self-evidence amused me!

though the real answer is a lot more complicated. i was at a point in my life when uprooting was pretty easy - i was about to graduate, so didn't have a job yet, or a home, and my local friends were likely to move elsewhere (other students) or fairly new to me (gamers i met that year), so i didn't have strong ties to any particular place.

i might have answered the question differently, or at least had to struggle with it more, if i had been at a different point in my life.
