beans

our allotment has produced an amazing surfeit of green beans.

we've been giving them away to anyone who'll take them, which is becoming fairly comical.

and also starting to run short of ideas for exciting and creative ways to use them (sadly our freezer space is limited...)

so if there is anyone out there who can either

a) take some green beans (and get them from us in place [livejournal.com profile] urizen or i is likely to be)

or

b) suggest good recipes for using them (bonus points for green beans as part of a main dish, rather than a side, or tasty cold dishes that would make interesting lunches. not so much with chutneys and pickles, as neither of us is very fond)

it would be greatly appreciated.

i've no idea what we'll do when we start picking the squash...

mmmm green beans!

they're really good cooked and tossed with olive oil&basalmic vinegar&goat/cheese, eaten warm. if you mash up a few potatoes and add them, it's a hearty main dish. oh, garlic&salt&pepper&spices are good in this too. it also saves well to eat cold the next day.

i wonder if you could puree them with some tomatoes and oil and garlic and make a green-bean-based gazpacho thingy?
