Feb. 28th, 2006 03:42 pmmy computer is broken.
very, very broken. i did have a glitch or two yesterday, didn't think much of it--i was running many programs at once. but when i looked at it today, there was only strange error messages in techno-speak (i.e. haven't the faintest idea what they meant).
the nice computer center people will come look at your computers at certain times on certain days if you sign up--conveniently one such time and day was this afternoon. so a computer center man came round, looked at my computer and told me it was a hardware problem--specifically, my hard disk is fucked and will need to be replaced.
so now i need to ring my folks and get them to find the warranty, to see if it still applies (the machine is somewhere between one and two years old). of course, if it is under warranty i may need to ship it back to the US for repairs. if it isn't i shall be having a trip to PC World soon and probably wincing when i find out how much it will cost to get them to fix it.
the only good thing is that all my old files, and all my music, is saved on my external hard drive. and the lack of printer means much data from this year is on my USB disk thing or in one of various e-mail accounts. so even if it isn't salvagable i shouldn't lose too much stuff, and precious little that i need in the near future (stuff from last year i at least tend to have in hard copy...)
but yeah, not something i needed to happen right now, especially as i need to be prepping and researching things this week, which i can no longer do in my room. meh.
