Jul. 6th, 2005 06:02 pmwhy are there so many books in the world?
i'll never be able to read them all.
went to the library yesterday, picked things up in a desultry fashion--diana wynne jones, the brontes, dickens, jules verne, h.g. wells. but i'n also in the middle of margaret atwood's writing with intent which is a bunch of occasional pieces she wrote, including book reviews, prefaces, afterwords, lectures, essays, etc., which constantly mention books i mean to read or haven't heard of but now want to hunt down.
really need to read some rushdie, for example. and some original grimm's fairytales. and more history. and every victorian novel ever (currently working on sherlock holmes and the island of dr. moreau)
how does any one ever manage to read even enough to be a proper lit student, much less all the contemporary intriguingness and nonfiction?
